A man of charitable disposition and committed to serving society, Dr S. S. Jha is an orthopaedic surgeon by profession chose to utilise his professional surgical expertise for correcting the physical deformities of patients afflicted with poliomyelitis and other orthopaedic disorders to enable them to stand erect and walk properly with or without aids so that the country is not deprived of their precious potential as an earning member of the family and not remaining a burden to the family, society and the nation. Dr. S. S. Jha is a signing example of an ambassador from the medical fraternity on the world stage, who goes all out to serve the physically challenged persons all over India and even in neighboring Nepal. A combination of sincerity par excellence, determination and academic skills, is his receipe for success in his mission of life. He derives immense satisfaction and through his work is popular far and wide amongst the physically challenged. He has numerous national and internation publication to his credit. He is a familiar face in the world of orthopaedic surgery with wider academic participation. Dr. Jha has been serving the needy physically challenged patients in various parts of the country. He has been associated with various national and international societies and associations. He has been instrumental in supporting and upgrading the surgical fraternity. Serving for more than 25 years in medical – orthopaedic teaching fraternity in various medical colleges of Bihar (Darbhanga Medical College, Darbhanga, Patna Medical College, Patna, Nalanda Medical College, Patna, Sri Krishna Medical College, Muzaffarpur and Rajendra Medical College, Ranchi), he excelled in his passion for teaching and satisfying his hunger for serving the physically challenged outside the medical college with a missionary zeal. He did not contain his work to the limits of state of Bihar and Jharkhand, rather his charitable work area extended throughout the country and across its border to neighbouring Nepal, as well.
He also has served in the capacity of Honorary Director, Mahavir Vaatsalya Aspatal, Patna, a charitable multi-super speciality hospital run and managed by famous Sri Mahavir Sthan Nyas Samiti, Patna. All these works are voluntary and he has never accepted any remuneration for his services rendered. Over the years, he built up a surgical team consisting of orthopaedic surgeons, anaesthetists and several paramedical staffs. Interestingly the paramedical workers are drawn from persons from all walks of life comprising students, teachers, electricians etc. who got properly trained and are masters in sterilisation, plaster casting and postoperative care. Dr. Jha has been actively associated with Rotary Club and apart from its various posts and got involved with Rotary’s polio eradication programme, he was the Chairman of Polio Plus Committee, Bihar and Jharkhand.
It was at Ranchi itself during his post graduate studies he got associated as honorary medical officer at Gurunanak Home for Handicapped Children & Artificial Limb Center and developed keen interest in surgical rehabilitation of physically orthopaedic challenged patients.
Impressed by his deep devotion, commitment, ethical standard and unparalleled surgical excellence in corrective surgical skills, the management of our institute Sanjay Anand Viklang Hospital run by our Bharat Vikas Parishad brought him into our fold which he willingly accepted and became an inspiration and motivating force towards surgical rehabilitation of physically challenged.
Dr. Jha seriously persued pain relief in patients suffering from osteoarticular pain and became the first medical personnel to bring Computerised TENS and LASER Therapy to this state and in this persuit became a member of ISSP (Indian Society for Study of Pain).
Dr. Jha has also written a chapter in Textbook of Orthopaedics published on behalf of Indian Orthopaedic Association of which he is a very senior membership number LM0098.
A dedicated and a devout person, he serves the suffering humanity having a deep sense of charitable disposition, Dr. S.S. Jha deserves Padamshree Award for his selfless dedication to serve the society.

Achievement
Dr. S. S. Jha is Honorary Chief Consultant and emeritus orthopaedic surgeon at Bharat Vikas Viklang Punarvas Kendra and Sanjay Anand Viklang Hospital cum Research Centre, Patna since last 10 years. Till date more than 30,000 artificial support and more than 7,778 Polio and Corrective Surgery executed from this centre under his leadership. This service is free of cost and the mission of this centre is to eradicate physically challenged problem from Bihar. The mission of the centre is “21st century Viklang Mukta Bihar”. Apart from this Dr. Jha has operated more than 29,000 Polio and other Corrective Surgery free of cost. His passion was spotted by life line express which utilized his services for operating on the physically challenged patients whenever the train was stationed in Bihar at Muzaffarpur and Hajipur.
He has been founder trustee of Ramjanam Sulakshana Pandey Cancer Hospital, Ranchi and also been associated from inception of Mahavir Arogya Sansthan and Mahavir Vaatsalya Aspatal, Patna. He also served Rotary as Chairman Polio Plus Committee of Bihar & Jharkhand, Rotary Club District-3250. He rendered services free Santhal Paharia Seva Mandal, Deoghar. Every month visit to Madhupur for free operation of Physically Challenged people and became first surgeon in Bihar & Jharkhand to start limb lengthening surgery. Deeply associated with Sri Krishna Pranami Seva Samiti, he did operate in the surgical camps for physically challenged persons at Panna, Ranchi, Giridih, Daltonganj, Patna, Kanpur, Varanasi, Haridwar, Panipat, Delhi, Chandhigarh, Hyderabad, Guwahati, Panna, Birganj and Kathmandu, etc. Honourable President of India, Sri Ram Nath Kovind as the then Governor of Bihar inaugurated a Swasthya Mela on 29th July, 2016 at Mahavir Vaatsalya Aspatal, Patna.

State Bank of India Award, 2013 for outstanding work done under Polio free programme in India and Nepal. He was awarded with a cheque of Rs. One Lakh which he donated to Manav Seva Samiti, Darbhanga which is working for the downtrodden people of the society.
Shree Sunder Singh Bhandari, the then Governor Of Bihar had appreciated his works done for the welfare of humanity.
